When evaluating Salesforce products as foundation for building out your digital capabilities, expand your lens to beyond the products from Salesforce. Think platform, not product.

Aside from its products for managing customer relationship & engagement, its leadership of the appexchange marketplace means that new ways of doing business that your business strategy guides you to, will likely be supported by the innovation in the Salesforce ecosystem, not necessarily coming entirely from Salesforce, the company.

As an example, if you are contemplating “SaaS” plays for your products, the core functionality of Salesforce CRM may be extended by the likes of Zuora and you have your CRM software still relevant to your business process; complemented by products designed for SaaS operations. As far as a user is concerned, an application built on the Salesforce platform by external developer is an application within Salesforce.
